I learned about how and where different Indigenous tribes used to live in the Americas. This was interesting to learn because with the interactive map I saw that the territories of the Indigenous tribes would overlap and changed. This was important for me to learn because I can compare this map and the maps of European settlements to see which Indigenous tribe were effected. This was new to me because in my other history classes I wasn't really shown maps of where the Indigenous tribes resided.
Settler-Colonialism - Colonial America
In this unit I learned about the trade of enslaved people. This was important for me to learn because it showed how the European colonizers justified the horrific thing that they did to the people they captured. This was also important because I got learn about the transatlantic slave trade through the experiences of Olaudah Equiano.
Events Leading to the American Revolution
One thing that I learned in this unit was the role of women during the American Revolution. This was interesting to me because I also learned about the rights that women had like how single and widowed women had more rights than a married woman. This is a new way of learning for me but it helps me to understand how the lives of people were that weren't just men.
Creating a New Country
What I learned was the importance of the constitution. This was interesting to me because it showed how the three branches of government works. This was also interesting to me because I got to read through the constitution and look at how all people of color and women were left out of the constitution. This is a different way of learning for me because I was always taught history through a whitewashed point of view.
